Transport Assessment


For smaller-scale developments, where a full Transport Assessment is not necessary, then BWB can produce a simplified report in the form of a Transport Statement. Such a statement sets out the transport issues that currently exist in relation to the development site, together with details of the development proposals and how they can be suitably accommodated within the local highway network.


A Transport Assessment is a required element of a planning application when a new development is likely to have significant impact on the local transport network. BWB's specialist transport planning team have played a key role in many successful planning submissions by producing Transport Assessments for major developments across the UK. Such documents will consider the potential transport and highways impact of the proposed development and identify what measures are required to deal with them. We will seek to develop cost-effective and deliverable mitigation solutions which focus on improving accessibility and safety for all modes of travel, particularly for alternatives to the car such as walking, cycling and public transport.


The National Planning Policy Framework states that all developments which generate significant amounts of movement should be required to provide a Travel Plan. Such documents will take forward the mitigation measures which have been identified by the Transport Assessment with a package of long-term proposals that will encourage people to walk, cycle, use public transport and share car journeys.


In the lead up to a development becoming operational, BWB can take on the role of Travel Plan Co-ordinator on behalf of the developer to monitor and manage how people are travelling to the site and encourage them to make more sustainable transport choices where this is practical. BWB’s staff have great experience of liaising with relevant stakeholders and achieving positive modal shift to meet targets set as part of the planning process.
