Midlands-based CPMG Architects designed the new teaching facility to house the college's new Learning Resource Centre, beauty, hospitality and IT departments, alongside a main campus cafe, bistro and restaurant for public use and students training.

BWB’s M&E team was contracted to take on the design work for CA Sothers, the M&E Contractor for the project. Our duties included taking the design from the performance stages and to further assess and report on any value engineering solutions which would be appropriate for the development.

We then incorporated these options into the building services design so that the resulting building would successfully fulfil the client's aspirations in regards to the building's energy performance as well as meeting budgetary constraints.
Part of BWB’s remit was also to provide the final assessment and performance calculations for forwarding to Building Control in order to meet the Part L requirements.

Key Challenges

CA Sothers had a very restricted budget for the project and the delivery programme was extremely demanding for this new build. BWB’s M&E team met every target date which was set for the design delivery and in many cases design work was produced before it was scheduled. That together with selecting relatively quick and easily installed equipment meant that time on site would be reduced and the project hand over would be expedited.

The building was delivered to the Client without defects and effective team/Client collaboration throughout ensured Client satisfaction as the end result.
