I am an enthusiastic, self-motivated person who likes to have a target in life. I'm genuine and honest in what I say and do. I wear my heart

Why I decide to do what I do

At the tender age of 17 after a failed apprenticeship for the MOD working in the Plymouth Navy Base, I returned home and visited the careers centre. This resulted in me being interviewed for a position as a Structural Technician working on the Nuclear Power Station projects in Heysham and Torness for Taylor Woodrow. Not a career I had ever considered but as I was good at technical drawing at school (and out of work!) I gave it a shot. The rest as they say, is history. If the Taylor Woodrow opportunity hadn't come up I was seriously considering joining the Police force...... not sure how that would have panned out.

My potted history

I was brought up in a nice, stable working class family of 7, went to the local Grammar school and did ok in my O Levels - not great. Consequently I decided to pursue an apprenticeship rather than A levels and university.
As mentioned above, I fell into a career in Structures which I have loved almost every day of the last 30+ years. After several years as a sub contract technician I took a permanent position with Edward Roscoe Associates where I progressed through to Associate while taking my Associate Membership exams with the IStructE. I joined BWB in 2008 to help set up our Manchester office.

The best project I have ever worked on at BWB

In my time at BWB I have worked on many projects though none of them have been particularly notable in themselves - a sign of the times I guess. The challenging part of my job is trying to get as many of BWB's services appointed on a particular project as possible and then co-ordinating the BWB input. With that in mind I guess the Project we did for Centrica in Grimsby must rank as my most satisfying. On that project we provided Geo Environmental, Flood Risk, Civil, Structural, Topographical survey, Traffic assessment, highways engineering and Environmental Impact Assessment. Not a bad effort.

What I like to do in my spare time

In my spare time I like to play Golf. They say practice makes perfect…... I think they're lying.

What I hope to be doing 5 years from now

I fully expect to be the lead regional presence in the NW for BWB with an office of 30+ persons representing the full range of services BWB offer and perhaps even a niche service we develop for ourselves.
