Historically, the Sketchley Brook was a culverted and heavily polluted watercourse running beneath a dry cleaning warehouse in Hinckley, Leicestershire.

As part of a major redevelopment of the area, the watercourse was restored to a more naturalised channel, improving the water quality, biodiversity and overall amenity value of the area. Goodman were dedicated to the re-establishment of the watercourse, as it helped to provide a natural feature within the development, and also reduce flood risk to the nearby land.

Key Challenges

There were a large number of buried services located in close proximity to the existing culvert. The watercourse also had to navigate through a new section of highway, whilst still providing an accessible, naturalised river channel that maximised the ecological diversity of the area.

BWB's expertise resulted in a design that addressed these constraints and provided a satisfactory solution to the consenting authorities.
