Ellen Wilkinson School for Girls is located in Acton, London. This £3M addition to an existing 1970's building consisted of a concrete frame forming 2 levels plus a plant room clad in brickwork.

BWB designed from concept to construction including the underground drainage and structural design as well as concrete reinforcement detailing. The reinforced concrete frame advantages include acoustic performance and on site flexibility whilst being environmentally friendly.

Key Challenges

BWB assisted to create a design with large open areas allowing for easy future flexibility unobstructed by plant which was located on the roof. Following VE changes the program was tight and initially there was pressure to release information so as not to stall construction, requiring footings not to have reinforcement . Another interesting aspect was a need for post installed shear and bending reinforcement.
