Ernesford Grange Community Academy in Coventry is due to be handed over this week, 6 weeks ahead of schedule.

The new academy is one of 5 schools being delivered as part of the 'Midlands 1' batch of schools under the governments Priority Schools Build Programme (PSBP). The new build scheme brings together two schools, Ernesford Grange Community School and Alice Stevens SEN Secondary School, into one single facility for 1,175 students aged 11-19.

The project incorporates the construction of new Specialist Educational Needs facilities for the Alice Stevens Secondary School, and as such there is a requirement for installation of specialist M&E services and equipment, to support them in the delivery of their curriculum. This includes a sensory room, hydrotherapy pool and mechanical hoists in changing rooms.

BWB have provided multi-disciplinary engineering services which have helped to deliver this successful scheme on budget and ahead of programme.

Key Challenges

Significant challenges have included complex phasing between new and existing schools and innovative use of an existing historic moat as part of the SUDs scheme. Demolition of the existing school is expected to commence after the half term break to create external learning spaces, car parking and sports facilities.
