BWB Consulting has delivered a range of multi-disciplinary services for the first parcel of housing at the 77-acre Prince Of Wales mixed-use development in West Yorkshire. When complete, the former colliery site in Pontefract will feature more than 900 homes, 265,000 sq ft of employment space, a park, medical centre and other community facilities.

BWB had already been involved in the wider scheme after being commissioned by Harworth Estates to carry out Phase 1 infrastructure design and remediation enabling works to prepare the site for development. The first parcel was then sold to Ben Bailey Homes in order to build 131 three and four bedroom homes over 11-acres. The housebuilder appointed BWB to provide specialist transport, infrastructure and structural services together with the associated infrastructure and external works.

Construction of the dwellings is already underway with the first residents scheduled to move in during the autumn of 2015.

Key Challenges

BWB's external works design was developed to minimise retaining structures and complicated brickwork requirements between plots across a steeply sloping site, while drainage utilised the attenuation and flow control infrastructure installed during the Phase 1 works.
